Question: What is the experience for a paid Student License user (Restricted User)? What are the differences between Student and Teacher accounts?
Answer: Teacher accounts provide full access to all Screencastify features, while Student accounts with a paid Student License offer limited access designed to support learning without advanced administrative tools. Here’s what students can and cannot do:
Students Can:
- Watch videos and take quizzes
- View captions on the Watch Page
- Access AI Voiceover on the Watch Page
- View transcripts on the Watch Page
- Share their videos via the Google Drive link and generate QR codes
- Share the Drive link outside of their school/district domain unless their Google admin has restricted sharing to within their domain
- Submit video assignments
- Record and edit videos
- Export videos (including exporting to YouTube)
Students Cannot:
- View analytics for videos they watch
- Add interactive questions to videos
- Access the Submit dashboard
- Create new Submit assignments or topics
- Share content outside of the school district
- Add captions, tag standards, or add video descriptions on the VMP, or see the Discover page
- Access AI, Premium Library, or other premium features
This setup allows students to participate in video-based learning activities while keeping certain advanced or administrative features limited to educators.
Note: Free users will also get the student experience if they choose student on the survey.
