Question: Why does my recording appear blurry on Google Drive and/or YouTube?
Answer: Videos often appear blurry on Google Drive or YouTube immediately after they are uploaded. This is because both Drive and YouTube display a low-resolution version of your video while they're still processing the HD version in the background. This process could take up to 30 minutes depending on the length and size of your recording. But your video will ultimately appear in HD once it's ready.
If after 30 minutes the video quality is still poor, then Drive or YouTube may have encoded your video at a slightly different resolution than the one it was originally recorded at. Usually this isn't an issue, but occasionally this rescaling can have an impact on the readability of small text or other details.
If you are recording making a 'This Tab' recording with Screencastify, there may be a way to mitigate this issue:
Zoom in on your browser tab
If you zoom in on your Chrome tab before recording, any text in your tab will appear larger and sharper when viewed on Google Drive / YouTube.
To zoom in / out on your tab, press CTRL +/- (or ⌘+/- on a Mac).
