Yes, Screencastify is SOPPA compliant.
As of July 1, 2021, SOPPA imposes quite a few additional obligations on Illinois school districts and EdTech vendors like Screencastify. In general, school vendors who receive student personal information are prohibited from engaging in targeted advertising, selling student data or otherwise using student data for any purpose other than providing the services. School vendors are also required to implement and maintain reasonable security practices to protect student data that it holds publicly post a privacy policy detailing its privacy practices and delete student information upon request from a school district.
Screencastify adheres to all of these SOPPA requirements and always will. Additionally, we have entered into a standard IL Student Data Privacy Agreement that obligates us to meet all of these requirements as well as other provisions in this Agreement. Illinois school districts can join this agreement by signing Exhibit E.
