It's easy to export your recordings in many different formats, including:
- Export as a .webm file (video)
- Export as an mp4 (video)
- Export audio as an mp3
- Export as an animated gif
NOTE: If you wish to collect Viewer Analytics on your video and/or add Interactive Questions, you will need to share the Watch Page link to do so. Videos shared via these methods will not accumulate analytics or display interactive questions on your videos.
Export as a .webm file
WHAT IS A .WEBM FILE? A WebM file is an open source, high quality video format. WebM videos are compatible with most major browsers as well as with some video players like VLC.
- On the Video Management Page, click the Download File button
under Export Video
- Your recording will automatically begin downloading as a .webm file
Export as an mp4
NOTE: You must save your recordings on Google Drive to enable MP4 export.
- On the Video Management Page, click the Export as MP4
button under Export Video
- You'll be presented with the option to convert your video to a fixed frame rate of your choice (Screencastify dynamically changes frame rate during a recording depending on available memory). Most users can ignore this, but some third-party editing and production programs require videos with fixed frame rates.
- Click Export.
An Exports Drawer will pop up on the bottom right of your screen.
- When it's finished processing, a Download MP4 button will appear. Click that to download your .mp4 video.
Export audio as MP3
NOTE: You must save your recordings on Google Drive to enable MP3 export.
- From the Video Management Page, click Export as MP3
within the Export Video section
- An Exports Drawer will pop up on the bottom right of your screen.
- When it's finished processing, a Download MP3 button will appear. Click that to download your .mp3
Export as an animated .GIF
NOTE: The GIF format is meant for short, simple animations. Screencastify may fail to export a long, high quality recording as a GIF.
As a rule of thumb, the maximum duration for animated .GIF exports are:
3 minutes for a 300 x 300 px recording
58 seconds for a 640 × 480 px recording
19 seconds for a 1280 × 720 px recording
8 seconds for a 1920 × 1080 px recording

TIP: Animated .GIFs are a great way to make emails, websites and other online materials more engaging and informative. We use them all the time! Plus, because they don't have audio, they're often relatively small files.
