How to Sync Screencastify Quiz Grades to Canvas

Screencastify can automatically sync grades from interactive video quizzes to the Canvas gradebook when the video is assigned and completed within Canvas.

Before You Begin

For grades to sync successfully to Canvas, make sure the following requirements are met:

  • The video is embedded using the proper workflow. Follow our step-by-step guide on how to Add a Screencastify Video to an 'Assignment' in Canvas to ensure it's configured for grade syncing.
  • Your Screencastify account is on a Pro plan with the Canvas Gradebook Integration enabled by your administrator.
  • Your video includes an interactive quiz worth at least 1 point.
  • Any short-answer questions have been manually graded.
  • The video's viewer tracking is set to Track by email.
    • If your video is set to Track by name or Track anonymously, Screencastify will automatically update the tracking method when the video is posted to your LMS.
  • The student has answered all questions in the quiz.
  • The student completed the quiz inside Canvas. If the student completes the quiz directly in Screencastify/Castify instead of through the Canvas assignment, their grade will not sync to the Canvas gradebook.

How Grade Sync Works

When a student completes an eligible Screencastify quiz through Canvas, Screencastify uses the student's quiz results to send their grade to the Canvas gradebook.

For quizzes containing short-answer questions, those responses must be graded before the student's final grade can be synced.

If a Grade Isn't Syncing

If you don't see a student's grade in Canvas, check the following:
  1. Confirm that the Canvas Gradebook Integration is enabled for your account.
  2. Confirm that the quiz is worth at least 1 point.
  3. Make sure the student has answered every question in the quiz.
  4. Check for any short-answer responses that still need to be graded.
  5. Confirm the student took the quiz from within Canvas, rather than opening and completing the quiz directly in Screencastify/Castify.
  6. Confirm that viewer tracking is set to Track by email.
