When working through troubleshooting steps or when we release new features, you may be asked to check what version of Screencastify you are on. This means we are trying to find out the version or number of the extension itself. This will indicate if you are currently running the most updated version or if you may need to update your extension ⭐️ In this article you will be able to:
Locate your extension version/number
Here's a quick walkthrough on how to find the extension number/version of Screencastify you're on!
- Click on the puzzle piece icon
located in the upper right hand corner of your browser window
- Scroll down and click on 'Manage Extensions'
- Locate 'Screencastify' in your extensions
- The version number will be located to the right of 'Screencastify-Screen Video R...' as shown above!
Additionally, you can access our Chrome Webstore to check and make sure that you are running the most up-to-date version HERE. The version listing is found on the right-hand side under 'Additional Information' as shown here:
Manually update your extension
If you are not running the most up-to-date version of Screencastify and need to manually update your extension, here's a quick walkthrough on how to do that as well:
- Click on the puzzle piece icon
located in the upper right hand corner of your browser window
- Scroll down and click on 'Manage Extensions'
- You will then be brought to your extensions page. You want to ensure that you have 'Developer Mode' toggled ON
- Click on 'Update'
to update all extensions. Then you're all set 🥳
Note: If your extensions are managed by your school or district, you may not see Developer mode as an option to update the extension. In this case, all of your extensions update in the background every once in a while. There’s no action required from you for automatic updates. However, this process can take a couple days (in some cases up to a week). If you need to update your extension prior to this, we recommend reaching out to your IT Administrator for help with that update.
