You are only able to edit captions if you edit them immediately after clicking on 'Generate for Me' or 'Upload My Own'. You will only see these options if you have decided to add captions directly after stopping a recording. If you open a video from your 'My Videos' page, you will not have the ability to edit your captions. You will see the 'Captions' button greyed out and state 'Captions Added'. Once this action has taken place, you will not be able to go back and edit them.
You will be taken to this page automatically once captions have been added to your video if you have generated them directly after ending a recording.
NOTE
At this time, we are only able to generate captions in English. You are able to upload your own captions (in webVTT format) in another languages though 🥳 The captions would still be labeled as English as that is our default generator.
Here's a quick walkthrough of that process:
- In the captions editor, you can either click “Review and Edit” on the pop up or the blue "Review and Edit" button next to the captions track. This allows you to preview the captions text and make any changes needed.
- You can then make any edits you would like to the text tracks from there. You can delete full lines of text, re-spell words correctly, or amend phrases. You can see a preview displayed in the video player on this page as well - it will live update with the text on the video as you make edits, and will move the video playhead forward to the timestamp of the captions block you select.
-
Once you are done making your edits, click “Done” to finish and save. This will automatically update the captions file and your changes will be live on the Watch Page immediately. You can return to this page at any time and make any additional changes if needed.
